Plum Garden / 梅园书栈

梅园报晓 Plum Garden News—No. 5 October 27 – October 31 Kindergarten / First grade Dear parents, Welcome to our Plum Garden blog! This will be a communication garden for students, parents, and me to share comments and ideas. The weekly news will be posted on the blog every Monday. Also, please check out student’s art gallery page to see their wonderful art portfolios and school daily life pictures. I will try my best to update their art works and photos. To inquire what we will do this week, we will finish “A day of life in school 学校里一天的生活” and will start “Who works in our school? What job do they do and what is their job title? 誰在學校工作?他們的工作是什么及他们的称呼?” Thank you all for your help for turning in your elementary classroom standards. I appreciate sharing your comments and experiences with the children. This week we will brainstorm our classroom standards. On the Wednesday homework package, I will send home a survey with your child. The survey is about sharing your job experience with your child. Such as “What is a good attitude at work? What is your job commitment? Why is commitment very important?” The new Chinese reading was sent home with your child last Wednesday. Please encourage your child to read at least 10 to 15 minutes a day. Cultivating a reading habit is very important for the children. Also, learning a language needs a lot of time to practice it. Our daily class starts at 8:30 A.M. Please be on time for school. For more concentration and no interruptions during the lessons, toys are not encouraged to be...

Bamboo Garden News – 2

Dear Parents: We have brought Halloween in from last week. We learned the vocabulary Halloween- 万圣节, Pumpkin 南瓜-, and read a story about what Halloween is about, what people usually do on Halloween. This week, from Oct. 29th and 30th, we will decorate our classroom with the children’s work, making pumpkins, bats and playing pre-Halloween games. On the 31st, we will have a lot of activities for celebration with the big kids. Please look forward to it. Thanks,...

Bamboo Garden News, Oct. 20th-24th, 2008

Dear Bamboo Gardeners’ parents: Thank you very much for always visiting our “bamboo garden” blog and giving me feedback. It encourages me a lot. First of all, I would like to welcome our new bamboo gardener, Paige, who is joining us on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Secondly, I want to mention three things about our new classroom management: 1. When kids come into the classroom, the first thing they need to do is to put the colored card, which matches the color they will sit on at circle time,  in our little envelope. (They already know about this) 2. Thanks for always caring about your kids getting the reward everyday (stamps). The main purpose of doing that is to encourage kids to help them improve not only their Mandarin, but most importantly their self-discipline. Also they are expecting a little gift by gathering enough stamps. From this week, I will have a “traffic signal system” (green, yellow, red stamps). We will explain getting green stamps is great, yellow is good, and red is having enough space to improve. We always discuss the reasons for getting different stamps at the end of day. (It will work for both Full and Part- time kids.) 3. We will have our IB ten learner profiles evaluation paper everyday (inquirer, thinker, risk-taker, knowledgeable, communicator, principled, open-mind, caring, balanced, and reflective) to help kids with their weaknesses as well as encouraging their strengths. It is our goal to help kids grow up with the IB learner profiles. 4.Please remind  your full time kids to bring a book from home. Schedule: Luca: Monday,  Wednesday Kai: Tuesday, Thursday Evelyn: Friday        (We will take turns every month) Our hard work: As our inquiry goes deeper, we learned what the functions are for our five features, hands...

Plum Garden / 梅园书栈

梅园报晓 Plum Garden News—No. 4 October 20 – October 24 Dear parents, I hope you all had a nice fall break. I am very happy to see that the children are back at school. It is nice to hear them laughing again. First of all, I would like to thank our Pre-K parent, Sophie. Sophie is our school blog organizer. Last weekend, she added classroom blogs (Bamboo Garden and Plum Garden news) into the Shu Ren School blog. Please check it out at http://shurenschool.wordpress.com/shu-ren-classroom-blogs/. This will be a communication garden for students, parents, and me. I believe that in order to build a good learning environment I will need your help. Please feel free to leave messages or give me any comments, ideas, and feedback. Starting next Monday, I will post the Plum Garden News letter on our blog instead of sending it by email. Before fall break, students have created their own playground standards. I am very proud of them for coming up with many positive thoughts and am appreciative of their hard work to make our classroom management more efficient. Children have been making progress in being able to solve their own conflicts, sharing, taking turns, and respecting everyone and everything in their daily school life. To inquire in what we will do this week, we will start “A day of life in school 学校里一天的生活”. We will learn: •    The school starting time. •    Getting ready to go to school. What do you do before school starts? •    Classroom activities and recess activities. •    The children will know when is lesson time and break time and understand...
