梅园报晓 Plum Garden News—No. 9 November 24 – November 28 Kindergarten / First grade Dear parents, Important dates * 11/26, Thanksgiving potluck. Students will be dismissed by 3:00pm. * 11/27 and 11/28, Thanksgiving break. No classes will be held at Shu Ren International School. Below is our new Plum Garden Daily Schedule. Our inquiry this week is “How do we celebrate our holiday? 我们如何庆祝我们的佳节?”. Students will learn how to celebrate Thanksgiving. We will learn the Thanksgiving foods for the feast and traditional Thanksgiving activities. Starting today, I have grouped two students into a team during their Small Curriculum Time. They will be working together for math, Chinese, science, reading and project. I will continue to help with children’s needs in different academic areas. Also, they will learn how to cooperate with other children and how to help each other. Sometimes, they will have short and small presentations to demonstrate their knowledge of what we are currently working on. Language: We will learn lesson three “长大 Grow up”. We will learn 下 (down), 三 (three), 鱼 (fish), 河 (river), 大 (big), 光 (light), (middle), 在 (in, on, at, by). We will also learn “How do we celebrate our holiday? 我们如何庆祝我们的佳节?”. We will learn Thanksgiving related vocabulary words. Math: Our math lesson is “Where is it? /在哪里?” We will continue to learn place and distance, such as up, down, front, back, left, right, near, and far. By the end of this section, the children will be able to describe the distance between two things. Bamboo Newsletter, Nov, 17th-21st, 2008 Dear Parents: Thanks for reading our bamboo blog every Sunday. -Thanks for coming to the Parent Conference. It gave us a chance to talk about your kids and also helped me to know your kids better. If you have any questions, please feel free to talk to me whenever you have time. -Our reward system helps kids participate a lot especially in our body movement session. -Thanks to all kids for their longer concentration at circle time. Last week, we learned that we need to do exercise to keep healthy and eat healthier. This week, we reviewed everything we learned from Theme 1 and we introduced “Thanksgiving holiday”. We have our thankful tree to put our thankful leaves on. Next week-Dec, 2nd, it is our last week for our theme 1, my body. We will review everything we learned and celebrate Thanksgiving Day on Wed with a potluck. We will also have our sandwich day on Dec, 2nd for our last activity for theme 1. Thankfulness and Appreciation感谢 are our weekly vocabulary themes. Every two weeks, we learn a new vocabulary that is meaningful to the children. They can use and practice these phrases in their daily life. So far, we have learned Sharing分享, Taking turns轮流, Respect尊重. Cultivating a ‘whole person’ is my teaching philosophy; I believe it is more important than teaching them to be a ‘perfect person’. Dear Bamboo parents: Thanks for viewing our newsletter every week -Thanks to all the kids for understanding for the most important things what is ok (可以) to do and not ok (不可以) to do for their self-discipline by showing the pictures. They could tell anyone the reasons of why it is 可以 and 不可以. And we are trying to carry it out in real life as well as reminding other kids. – “Happy Birthday to Kai” (生日快乐), our k/first grade teacher. We celebrated her birthday on Monday. We had cupcakes before our lunch. -Thanks to all the kids for trying to let me know before they do something at circle time. They are learning to respect all kids and teachers. – We learned what we should do when we get sick, who we see (医生,护士doctor, nurse) and where we go (医院,hospital) and what a doctor uses to check our body. Finally, who do we need to thank for taking care of us when we are sick. – This week, we are learning that exercise is very important for us and what we can eat to make us healthier. –For next week, we will review everything we learned from Theme 1 and we will introduce “Thanksgiving holiday” with some activities.
