梅园报晓 Plum Garden News—No.19 February 23 – February 27 Kindergarten / First grade Greeting Parents, Welcome back to school. I hope everyone had a very restful mid-winter break. This week, we are reviewing from animal hibernation to animals’ houses and will slowly blend into human houses. We will discover the differences between animal and human shelters. ‘Why do we need a shelter?’ will be one of our inquiries. We will get into our next theme, 我美丽的家/ My beautiful family. Our new theme is about 我美丽的家 / My beautiful family. Five and half weeks from 2/23-4/8 are the total learning weeks. The subject will focus on language, social studies, personal social education (PSE), math, science, and the arts. The central idea is to express every family member has an important role and how to shares the relationship with family members. The inquiries are: * Different houses are built from different materials. * The members in my family/what are their occupations? * What is the interior appearance of my bedroom and dream room? * Happy hour—when we are together. In our first inquiry, we would like to introduce our family members to the class. We will have a family picture album project—The week of family. Starting this Friday, I will send home with one child a bag of materials for this project. Inside the bag includes a poster paper, a puppet animal, and a sheet of family recipes menu. This is a family weekend activity. The project will be due on the following Monday. The week of family’s child needs to bring the project and return puppet animal back to school...

Important dates: 02/17-02/20 Winter Camp. Extended day care provided. 04/13-04/17 Spring Camp. Extended day care provided. Dear parents, Happy Holiday!! Hope you all had a wonderful break. We did find out the results of the experiment from Tian Tian’s mom: Pei: with a dirty hand–a few days later, we found out germs grow in the plate Jie: with a clean hand–a few days later, we found out there were nothing in the plate just like before we fingerprints. Questions to children: What if we don’t wash our hands before eating? Why is it so important to wash hands? What do you think would happen if you didn’t wash your hands? Pei and Jie tried to have the experiment again so children who missed it could see it too. Last week, we tried to learn about the parents’ workplaces. We also learned what is 大-da(big) and 小-xiao (small) while we were trying to dress up in clothes from parents and babies. This week, as our theme goes on, we learn that even a little thing such as cleaning up the toys, putting all books back to shelves is still a big help for parents. Music: (body movement, )1.走走走走走,想想我们要清理哪里呢? 柜子,桌子,椅子,地板……t 2. the song we had for last week- 小椅子 Story: 我们什么都会做 (we can do everything), 妈妈的礼物 (mom’s present). Monday: (Social studies) We read a story of “We can do everything”-about helping with housework. Discussed what parents usually do after working on the weekend. By showing pictures, what are people doing in the pictures? (sweeping, mopping, cleaning toys, cleaning desk…) Tuesday: (math) After we discovered what parents usually do in our house...
