梅园报晓 Plum Garden News—No.24 March 30 – April 4 Kindergarten / First grade Greeting Parents, Important dates 4/13 – 4/17    Spring Break. Extended day care provided. Sign-up to the Camp is needed at the Administrative Office. Last Friday, we had Winnie (Ethan’s mother) come to the Plum Garden to talk to the students about her work. Thank you to Winnie for sharing her job experience with us. Finally, spring is here! Last week, we were busy planting more flowers and vegetables in our garden to prepare for our next theme inquiries. I would like to thanks Oscar’s family for bringing in many different kinds of flowers for everyone. We use phone books to press those beautiful flowers for the inquiry of our next theme—Plants and us. ¡Feliz cumpleaños Cesar Chavez! March 31st is Cesar Chavez Day. We will celebrate Cesar Chavez’s birthday by planting strawberry plants in our garden. The children will learn about this Mexican farm worker hero’s story. Through the story, the children will also learn and understand about the occupation of the farm worker. 快乐时光——当我们同在一起的时候 / Happy hour—when we are together is our last inquiry of my beautiful family / 我美丽的家庭. When we come back to school from the spring break, we will have a completely new theme— Plants and us / 植物与我们. Thank you Plum Garden families for sharing your family pictures. We enjoyed looking at each photo. Now, I am collecting the family recipes and I’d like to bind them into a cookbook. I still need your help to type your recipes and email them to me. If you are willing to provide more...

Bamboo Garden News, March 23-27, 2009

Dear Parents, First, a few notes: 1. Thanks to all the children for not bringing toys to school. 2. I would like to ask all parents to please pick up your child on time whenever he/she is supposed to be picked up. The pickup time for half-day is 11:30am and for full-day is 3:00pm. If you are late to pick up your child for some reason, please have your pre-paid card ready for teachers. If you don’t have one, please ask Ping or Jie for one. Thank you! 3. Because of the licensing law, please remind your child not to share food in school to prevent any personal health problems. 4. According to an announcement earlier from the head of school, there is a NO Nuts Policy in the school. Thanks! 5. (For Full-Day Children) If your child has an Easter story, you can ask them if they feel like sharing the book with others this week. Thanks. Our week’s theme was: How we express ourselves when tasting food, such as spicy, sour, sweet, and bitter. Language: We continued our three signal actions. Each time we had a different child play the glass bottle to remind the class it was cleaning time. We played a tambourine to signal going to the playground and coming back to the classroom. When we played woodblock, we were quiet. This week, we had a fun tasting activity and we saw different expressions on children’s faces when they tasted sugar, coffee mixed with water, and vinegar, and when PeiPei tasted chili powder. They expressed sweet-甜, bitter-苦, sour-酸, spicy-辣. Music and body movement: Another four...

Bamboo Garden News, March 16-20, 2009

Dear Parents, You have already received an announcement from the head of school, but I also want to welcome our new teacher, Feng Laoshi. I am very happy to have Feng Laoshi here every morning to be with all of us. There are a few things I would like to announce: 1. Thanks to all the children who tried to share their toys with others over the past few weeks. However, I have already discussed with all children and we have agreed not to bring any toys such as trains, buses, cars and so on. Children can bring ONE of their doll friends. They will put the doll in their cubby after they arrive at Shu Ren and they will “ONLY” have their doll with them when they nap. Thanks to all children for trying to understand the reasons why their own toys are supposed to play at home not in the school. 2. [Only for full-day children] We have a new schedule for bringing a book to share with others: Please remind your child to bring a book on the day he/she is supposed to bring one (English or Chinese is fine; we will still read it in Chinese. Thanks.) Parents can recommend children bring a book related to the coming holiday, Easter OR if your child has any books related to our theme, How we express our feelings. We are now talking about “sounds” and how different sounds signal different actions. Monday: Luca, Jaden Tuesday: Kai, Kieran Wednesday: Evelyn, Charles Thursday: Deja, Mia Friday: PeiPei, Miles This week’s theme: Any kind of sound means something. (St. Patrick’s...
