Biweekly Planner October 5-16

Greeting Pine Garden families, Welcome to the first Newsletter for Grade 1 and 2 Class at Shu Ren International School. I plan to use this biweekly Newsletter to share our curriculum information and class related activities with you. In each issue, I plan to review classroom activities in the past two weeks and give you a preview of what is coming up in the next two weeks. The Pine Garden biweekly review and planners are listed below: Language/ Science/ Art We have been learning colors for our first theme and been extending our knowledge of mixing colors. Since all the 2nd graders already learned basic and primary colors from last year, our class has expanded the names for colors to 26 different shades of colors by experimenting with multiple colors from a filter lens and by mixing colors. For instance, we learned about 水蓝色/aquamarine, 紫红色/magenta, 草绿色/chartreuse, 蓝紫色/violet, etc. We will continue to discuss how to appreciate one another’s art work and to talk about how colors affect our feelings. Also, we had learned how to read and write 上/up, 下/down, 大/big, 左/left, 右/right, 手/hand, from a rhyme ” 拍拍手/Clap Your Hands.” We learned our first Chinese poem, “A Tiny Tree / 小树,” to write new vocabularies characters and understand the meaning of the characters. For example: “小,” “树,” “种”。It takes time for the children to understand how to relate one character to another and to create meaningful phrases. In this section, the children will learn how to build phrases through games, such as the character game, and the Bingo game. Math In our first chapter, we will focus on...

Plum Garden Kindergarten’s October subject planners

Plum Garden Kindergarten’s first theme and October subject planners Language (October 7 – October 13) The children will continue to focus on how to put two or three characters together to become a meaningful phrase. The children will engage their Chinese phrase concepts through playing “Fish catching” and “Looking for a friend” games. We will make flash cards of classroom material names so that the children will be able to practice with vocabularies and phrases at home. (October 14 – October 20) The children will learn how to add phrases together to become a sentence. The children will engage their Chinese phrase and sentence concepts through playing the games: “Fish catching” and “Looking for a friend”. We will have sentence exercise games during our center time. This exercise will help the children to understand Chinese sentence structures. (October 21 – October 28) We will review lesson one “ 花开了 Flowers are blooming” and phrases exercises on this week. We will start lesson two “上学 Going to school”. Children will learn how to write: 二 (two), 上 (up), 太 (very), 心 (heart), 叫 (call, yell), 早 (morning, early), 我 (I, me), 笑 (smile, laugh), 开 (open, drive). Language is a daily lesson. Math (October 7 – October 13) We will review backwards counting. This week, we will learn how to compare different quantities of objects. The children will learn the concept that quantities won’t change no matter how different objects are. For example, the amount of 4 elephants is equal to 4 mice and also equal to 4 bees. (October 14 – October 20) We will review how to compare...

Winnie Bears Lesson Plans for September

Winnie Bears (2-3 Year Olds) September Language/Reading: Stories- Autumn and the Autumn Festival We started off the school year by reading stories about making new friends, having good manners, and adjusting to school. Recently we have been reading stories about Autumn and the legend behind the Autumn Festival. The children learned about Hou Yi (后羿) and Chang E (嫦娥) and why we eat moon cakes. We also discussed what happens during autumn and why the leaves change color. Mathematics: Counting and Patterns We have been learning how to count and recognize the characters from 1 to 10 (一,二, 三,四,五,六,七,八,九,十) by counting the days on our calendar and playing BINGO. We have also been using pictures of different leaves to introduce the concept of patterning. Science: Autumn leaves What happens to leaves during Autumn? What happens to the weather? What do we need to wear? To explore the answers to these questions, the Winnie Bears and Panda Bears took a walk around our school to look at the trees. Winnie Bears have also been playing with bubbles in our sensory table to explore the way they feel. Music: 我的朋友在哪里 We have learned how to sing several songs since the start of the school year, such as the “Hand-Washing” song and the “Good Morning” song. We are currently working on the “Where are my friends?” (我的朋友在哪里?) song. 一二三四五六七,我的朋友在哪里,在这里在这里,我的朋友在这里 一二三四五六七,我的朋友在哪里,在这里在这里,我的朋友在这里 啦啦啦啦真喜欢,同唱歌来同游戏,笑嘻嘻多甜蜜,我的朋友就是你 Body Movement: Morning Exercise We have been doing different stretches in the morning following instrumental music. Art: Autumn Trees and Festival Lanterns After talking about the leaves changing color, we used finger-paint to paint leaves onto tree branches. We also made...
