Introducing the Shu Ren Student Council

Tuesday, April 16, 2019

The Shu Ren Student Council launched in January 2019 as a way to organize the students' voices. Student leaders from across grades K-5 are collaborating on three initiatives: publishing a monthly newsletter (Tree People Times), selecting and designing a school mascot, and organizing service-learning projects (Love Your World Week in April and Ally Week in September). To publish the newsletter, students work in teams to report on school life, create fun activities like "Spot the Difference," and write acrostic poems. Older students serve as editors, while younger students help to fold and deliver the newsletters to their peers. The student council organized a mascot vote which was held at the Lunar New Year. Over 130 people from the school community participated and selected the Dragon as our mascot. Student council members collected mascot designs and ideas, and the mascot will be revealed in the coming weeks. Ally Week will be held in September 2019 to build and sustain positive relationships within the school community.
