Moon Festival Virtual Celebration

Moon Festival 中秋节 is one of the most celebrated Chinese holidays, the roundness of the moon symbolizes family and union. On this day, family and friends would enjoy reunion dinners, share moon cakes, and children would light their lanterns under the bright moon.

This year Shu Ren brought the celebration virtually to the weekly elementary assembly. Our Assistant Head of School – Que Yi and music teacher – Ben kicked off the celebration with a sing-a-long about the beautiful round moon. Michelle, Admissions and Marketing Director, led the students to play the lantern riddle games 灯迷 , followed with Que Yi sharing the origins and culture of this holiday. The assembly ended with our favorite story teller Rong Laoshi reading The Legends of the Moon《嫦娥奔月》.

Teachers and students continued the celebration throughout the day. In the pre-kindergarten’s Units of Inquiry, students safely shared the moon cake and pomelo, while the elementary students went home with a moon cake to share with their family! It was a joyous day for us all.

Shu Ren wishes everyone around the world a Happy Moon Festival! 中秋节快乐!
